i somehow injured my back. for the past 24 hours it has been in throbbing pain and spasming. the nurse told me to take 4 advils three times a day. i feel really spacey right now. and i have to work an extra hour. seriously, i feel really drugged. but my back isn't so sore now. that's all.

okay

current mood: okay
current song: pulp-- Disco 2000

i really hate people's obsession with being "cool", crowded dance parties, music shows, art galleries, the art scene, day-glo, noise music, cocaine.

i like: buying records, cooking, taking bubble baths, watching movies, shopping, reading, studying german and going to bars.

am i boring? or am i just acting my age?

yesterday i splurged and bought a crap load of fancy bath cakes from lush. one looks like a big cupcake and another looks like a giant pink and white jelly roll. i got home, ate, made some matzo ball soup while blaring glenn miller on the record player and ran to the bath. it was worth the splurge. my bathtub was filled with buckets of bubbles and the water turned bright pink. i'm never buying cvs bubble bath again.

i always feel weird touting a product. even before i learned of this: i was reading the bbc a few weeks ago and learned of a new advertising technique. companies have now started paying people to do "word of mouth advertising" to try to promote products to their friends and acquaintences. for instance, you could be sitting at a bar with a friend and suddenly they go on a monologue on how jergens hand cream moisturises their hands. or how tide detergent leaves their laundry soft and fluffy. they might take a sip of their lager and say "and now you can get tide-natural, free of all perfumes and dyes yet still keeps your laundry fresh and clean". does this terrify anyone else? not only will we be bombarded with adverts and commercials on the tv and billboards and even effing coffee-cup holders, but in our personal conversations. god, i hate living in the future.

i'm thinking of taking classes at fleischer this summer. i'm thinking either: Architecture and Ornament: a hand-building clay class taught by the same teacher who taught me sporadically between the ages of 8 and 18.

the other is American Architecture in Philadelphia Buildings, which is a lecture course. i'm sort of leaning toward the former, though. it would be fun to work with clay again. it's been a long time.

i hate 9-5. in 40 minutes we have a library staff meeting which is ungodly boring. i haven't figured out my little yearly report ("so this year i was able to process 1500 donated slides. i learned how to scan and become profiecent in photoshop, and i have proccessed hundreds of digital images. blah blah blah"). we spend 5 minutes talking about visual resources and the next hour and a half is dedicated to main library staff droning on about what colour binders they should put request forms in. i hate that i have to go. i think i may fall asleep.
